New lines of action in the “International Committee in Search for Justice” (ISJ)
In the face of the current situation in Iran i.e. the Iranian people’s desire for change manifested by the nationwide protests in November and December 2019 as well as the violent suppression of the protesters by the clerical regime ruling Iran, and in order to streamline and improve its activities and position itself for a more efficient role in this respect, the International Committee In Search of justice (ISJ) is announcing a new organizational structure.
The organization will have two new departments as follows effective from 7 December 2019:
- ISJ – Committee on the Protection of Political Freedoms in Iran, chaired by Struan Stevenson, former chairman of the Delegation for relations with Iraq in the European Parliament.
- ISJ – Committee on the Protection of Human Rights & Justice in Iran. The Honourary Chairman is Giulio Terzi, former foreign minister of Italy.
This initiative was undertaken to inform the international community, including world leaders and policy-makers as well as the relevant bodies of the United Nations, particularly the UN Secretary General Office, the UN Security Council and Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, about the situation in Iran, to ensure that the world community plays its role and fulfils its duties towards the nationwide uprising in Iran.
The new structure will focus on the nationwide protests in order to ensure the protesters’ voice will be heard by the world community and on that basis the ISJ will carry out its activities through meetings, publications and all other possible means in order to help the Iranian people and fulfil the following aims:
- To obtain political support for the Iranian people’s uprising and their desire to end the ruling theocracy and establish a republic based on free elections, the separation of religion and state, gender equality, an end to all discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities and a non-nuclear Iran.
- To send a UN fact-finding commission to Iran to undertake an independent and impartial investigation into the death toll and number and situation of those arrested during the nationwide protests in Iran.
- To hold those who ordered and perpetrated the bloody crackdown on protests accountable by international bodies and wherever necessary through the relevant judicial bodies and to ensure that there can be no impunity for the guilty.
