In a letter to the Iranian authorities sent in September 2020 and published in early December, seven official U.N experts asked for accountability and an official inquiry about the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran.
“We would like to bring to [your] attention, information we have received concerning allegations of the continued refusal to disclose the circumstances of death and remains of thousands of political dissidents who were forcibly disappeared and then allegedly extrajudicially exécuted between July and early September en 14988 in 32 cities [in Iran] and the authorities refusal to provide families with accurate and complete death certificates”, they said in their letter.
